ORNL Perks

Club ORNL

Club ORNL is sponsored by UT-Battelle for its employees and retirees of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) who worked under current or prior ORNL prime contracts. Club ORNL was established in the fall of 2005 with a mission to strengthen the sense of community and esprit de corps with individuals who have either worked or are currently working at ORNL. Subcontractors, interns and individuals who are not UT-Battelle employees are not eligible for discounts or participation in events hosted by Club ORNL.


Tuition Reimbursement

The Tuition Reimbursement Program supports ORNL employees in continuing their education by offering up to $10,000 in tuition reimbursement per calendar year towards a degree-seeking program. This benefit is available to regular full-time and part-time employees after one year of service and applies to approved degree programs that align with the Lab’s mission. Reimbursement covers tuition and certain course-related fees; books and general supplies are not eligible.

To qualify, employees must have approval from their supervisor, Division Director, and HR Business Partner, meet performance and retention requirements, and submit documentation—including an Individual Development Plan (IDP) and proof of course completion. Reimbursements are partially taxable based on IRS limits.

Service Awards

ORNL’s Service Award Program acknowledges an employee’s years of service to ORNL and consists of two parts: (1) an award of a Certificate of Service and (2) a Mastercard prepaid reward card that can be used for in-store or online purchases. Service awards are gifted to full- and part-time active employees at each five-year level of service. Postdocs and casual employees are not eligible for this benefit.

Little Learning Lab Childcare

The Little Learning Lab offers care to children ages 6 weeks to 5 years and is operated by the Emory Valley Center.

ORNL benefits include a dependent care flexible spending account, which can be used for childcare expenses.

Note: Priority enrollment will be given to children of ORNL and DOE ORNL Site Office employees and is subject to availability.


Relocation

ORNL offers relocation assistance to new hires or transferring exempt employees whose permanent residence is more than 50 miles from ORNL. Relocation packages may reimburse employees for specific, reasonable expenses, which may include interim lodging, shipment of household goods, rental car costs, and a stipend for miscellaneous expenses. Eligibility and specific relocation benefits vary based on position and/or location.


Flexible Work Schedules

We provide schedule flexibility when personal needs arise, with management approval.


Credit Union Membership

Employees and family members of UT-Battelle may become members of the ORNL Federal Credit Union. A branch office with ATM machines is at the ORNL main site.
