Retiree Healthcare and Pension Seminars

Throughout the year, both ORNL Retirement Services and Pension & Savings departments host separate retiree healthcare and pension seminars to help employees plan for retirement. These seminars provide an overview of retiree medical (including Medicare), dental, and life insurance benefits as well as pension and 401(k) information. Attending both seminars allows you to ask questions and gain knowledge from others' questions as well. ORNL staff are also available after each seminar to answer personal questions.

Attending the pension and retiree healthcare seminars is highly recommended prior to starting the retirement process.

See ORNL Today for upcoming seminar presentations and below for slide decks for each presentation.

Retiree Benefits

ORNL provides retiree medical and life insurance for eligible employees who retire. This includes:

  • Medical and Dental Coverage for You and Your Family
    • If retiring under age 65, you and your dependents may continue the same medical and dental coverage you had prior to retirement, if eligible.
    • If retiring at age 65 or over, you may enroll in the ORNL Medicare Supplement Program. Upon reaching age 65, your spouse may also be eligible to participate in the program.
    • Retiree premiums can be found at benefits.ornl.gov/retiree-benefits/
  • Life Insurance Coverage
    • Salaried employees hired before 4/1/2012 and all ATLC Bargaining Unit employees may continue basic life insurance in retirement if they’ve had coverage for at least one year prior to retirement.
    • You may continue your full basic amount up to age 65 by paying a monthly premium or elect a paid-up amount at no further cost. At age 65 any full coverage is reduced to the paid-up amount, at no further cost.

For more information see the Retiree Summary Plan Description.
